SMART Service Plans for the Day of the Eclipse:
- 1X is running on alternative route adjacent to I5. If traffic isn’t bad, the 1X will run on normal route.
- Buses will not operate between 10:15AM-10:20AM. Buses will safely pull over to avoid safety hazards during totality of eclipse.
- SMART will be using Facebook and text alerts as primary communications during eclipse for updates/delays/etc. Make sure you are signed up for enotify or follow SMART on Facebook. (SMART TRANSIT, WILSONVILLE)
1X route for the Eclipse
A total solar eclipse will take place on Monday, August 21, 2017. In addition to Oregonians trying to view the eclipse, almost one million visitors are expected to descend upon Oregon in the days around the event.
While this is an exciting event, we Oregonians also have businesses to run and work to do. The extra traffic promises to be a real headache for people trying to get to work or get stuff done. So what can you do? Here are some ideas:
•Carpool: Create a temporary carpool for the days around the event. From Friday the 18th through Tuesday the 22nd are likely to have much higher than usual traffic volumes. Carpools can be informal among friends, or to connect with others going the same way try Drive Less Connect http://www.drivelessconnect.com/ Who knows, maybe you’ll love and keep doing it!
•Bike: Fly by the cars sitting in traffic.
•Telecommute: Work from home the day of the eclipse.
•Take the day off: If you can, just stay home and enjoy the day!
