Parks Board Awards $23,500 to Local Organizations to Support Community Events
April 27, 2022 — Through two grant programs, the City of Wilsonville has allocated $23,500 in funding to support local events and attractions that bring the community together and attract visitors to Wilsonville.
The Community Tourism Grant program supports organizations that produce projects, programs or events that promote local business and tourism or host festivals/special events held for the benefit of the Wilsonville community. Funding is drawn from transient lodging taxes assessed to hotels, motels, and bed and breakfasts within city limits.
The following allocations were recommended by the Tourism Promotion Committee and approved by the City Council this month:
- An $8,000 award to the Wilsonville Arts and Culture Council in support of the organization’s annual Wilsonville Festival of Art (June 2-4) and Summer Performance Series (August).
- A $5,000 award to the Wilsonville Rotary Foundation in support of the Rotary’s Wilsonville Summer Concert Series at Town Center Park (July 21-August 11).
The Community Opportunity Grant program provides up to $25,000 annually from the City’s general fund to support projects and services that promote education, diversity, arts, or community involvement within Wilsonville.
The following allocations were made by the Parks & Recreation Board this month:
- A $7,500 award to the City of Wilsonville’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee in support of the committee’s second annual Juneteenth Celebration (June 18).
- A $3,000 award to Wilsonville Community Seniors, Inc., in support of a summer trip to be enjoyed by members of that organization.
