June 21, 2019 — The City of Wilsonville is now accepting applications from residents interested in appointment to the Wilsonville City Council to fill the seat being vacated by Councilor Susie Stevens upon her resignation on June 30.
The service term begins upon appointment by the City Council and concludes on Dec. 31, 2020.
All applicants must meet eligibility requirements, which include U.S. citizenship and residence in Wilsonville for at least 12 consecutive months directly preceding the appointment.
An application, which is posted online, includes the criteria to be considered when Mayor Tim Knapp and Council President Kristin Akervall review eligible applications to produce a short list of final candidates.
Finalists for the position are to be interviewed by City Council before an appointment is made in August.

June 20, 2019 — At the June 17, 2019, meeting of the Wilsonville City Council, the Council adopted a resolution renewing the City’s grant-funding agreement with Wilsonville Community Sharing, the local community social-services agency and food bank. The City’s grant of about $52,000 helps to fund support services — including assistance with rent, food, prescriptions and utility bills — to Wilsonville individuals and families in need.

Pipeline operator Kinder Morgan, one of the largest energy infrastructure companies in North America, is presenting on the topic of pipeline safety and improvements at Wilsonville City Hall, 29799 SW Town Center Loop East.

June 6, 2019 — The City of Wilsonville is recruiting individuals to serve on a volunteer task force charged with developing a strategic plan to benefit the growing number of community members burdened by the region’s lack of affordable housing.
The Equitable Housing Strategic Plan Task Force is expected to meet at least three times over the next six to eight months to evaluate current data, consider public input, provide technical expertise, innovate and develop policies and strategies to address the gaps in Wilsonville’s housing market.
The City is seeking a well-rounded committee of about 15 members who represent a broad array of professional experience in housing development, real-estate finance, affordable housing, social services and related fields. Residents, employees, businesses and property owners, housing developers and representatives of community-based service organizations are encouraged to apply.

June 4, 2019 — At the June 3, 2019, meeting of the Wilsonville City Council, the Council adopted a City budget for the 2019-20 fiscal year beginning July 1, 2019. The all-funds budget of $212.5 million was recommended and approved by the Budget Committee for the Council’s consideration on May 28.

June 3, 2019 — The City’s Economic Development arm is seeking input from Wilsonville-based business owners in order to develop customized programs to better assist local companies and optimize the local business climate for future operators.
Wilsonville is asking business owners to complete a short electronic survey by June 28. The confidential survey includes questions about current challenges, desire to expand, satisfaction with City services and appetite for workforce assistance resources.

May 31, 2019 — Wilsonville City Councilor Susie Stevens has informed Mayor Tim Knapp, her fellow Councilors and City Manager Bryan Cosgrove that she is resigning from the Council effective June 30.
“It has been a genuine honor to serve the Wilsonville community,” Stevens said in a May 30 letter informing the group of her decision. “I have learned so much and I truly value and respect the work and dedication of Council members, City volunteers and staff. The combined efforts of countless people make Wilsonville an amazing place.”
Stevens cited upcoming opportunities, including travel, as a catalyst for her decision to depart during the third year of her second four-year term in office. Stevens won election to the Council in 2012 and was re-elected in 2016.

May 22, 2019 — At the May 20 meeting of the Wilsonville City Council, Council accepted the transfer of 10 acres of property from West Linn-Wilsonville School District to fulfill a 2010 agreement between the City and School District. The property, located adjacent to the new Meridian Creek Middle School in the future Frog Pond South neighborhood, is for development of a future park and/or sports fields as described in the 2018 Parks and Recreation Comprehensive Master Plan.

May 15, 2019 – The French Prairie Bridge Task Force is meeting on Tuesday, June 4, 6-8 pm, at Wilsonville City Hall, 29799 SW Town Center Loop E.
The meeting provides a public form for the Task Force to consider public testimony, impact studies, cost estimates and other criteria in order to determine which bridge type to recommend to the Wilsonville City Council and the Clackamas County Board of Commissioners for consideration this spring.
Two bridge types are under consideration – a suspension bridge and a cable-stayed bridge. Both signature bridge types were previously identified by the Task Force for their aesthetic qualities and lower environmental impacts.

May 9, 2019 - The City of Wilsonville is seeking candidates for four positions on City boards and commissions. Terms begin in July for the positions, appointed by Mayor Tim Knapp and confirmed by the Wilsonville City Council.
Volunteers selected to serve on City committees aide local government’s ability to serve residents, businesses and visitors.
“We are looking for community members who desire leadership roles and who are passionate about retaining the high quality of life we currently enjoy in Wilsonville,” Knapp said.

May 1, 2019 — For the 21st consecutive year, the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) has recognized the City of Wilsonville Finance Department with the “Distinguished Budget Presentation Award” for the fiscal year 2018-19 budget document.
The recognition from GFOA reflects the commitment of the City Finance staff to meet the highest principles of governmental budgeting standards. To qualify, a budget document must be rated proficient as a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide and a communications device; additionally, it must satisfy 14 mandatory criteria within those four categories.
“This award demonstrates the hard work put in by the City’s Finance department to effectively present the City’s budget to the community year after year,” City Manager Bryan Cosgrove said.

April 30, 2019 - South Metro Area Regional Transit (SMART) is celebrating 30 years of independent service with a celebration event at the Wilsonville Transit Center on June 26, 4-6 pm, that features a SMART milestone – the unveiling of the agency’s first zero-emission battery-electric buses.
A 2017 Federal Transportation Administration (FTA) Section 5339c grant award of $1.45 million funded the new buses, supported by a $400,000 match from the City of Wilsonville. SMART was the only transit agency in Oregon to earn a competitive grant under the $55 million FY 2017-18 Low or No Emission Vehicle Program.

April 25, 2019 — In partnership with Metro and Republic Services, the City of Wilsonville is holding a Bulky Waste Day on Saturday, May 11, 9 am–1 pm, at Republic Services, 10295 SW Ridder Rd. in Wilsonville.
This biannual opportunity is available only to Wilsonville residents; participants must provide proof or residence. There is no charge to dispose of waste, though the City encourages participants to donate personal hygiene items – including shampoo, toothpaste, paper towels, dish soap, laundry soap, deodorant – to help Wilsonville Community Sharing’s Food Bank provide assistance to local families in need.
Bulky Waste Day gives residents the opportunity to drop off large, bulky items that do not fit into standard-sized garbage cans. Accepted items include dishwashers, televisions, refrigerators, computers, monitors, stoves, dryers, water heaters, couches, mattresses, scrap metal, tables and chairs, and clean, untreated wood.

April 16, 2019 — At the Wilsonville City Council meeting on April 15, on first reading, the Council adopted the Wilsonville Town Center Plan. The Town Center Plan outlines long-term strategies for development of a vibrant mixed-use gathering place to live, shop, gather, eat, work and play in the heart of Wilsonville.
Nearly two years in the making, the Town Center Plan has been guided by extensive community outreach with residents, business owners and other stakeholders. Pillars of the plan include environmental stewardship, economic vitality, community gathering places, harmonious design and safe access and connectivity.

April 17, 2019 — The City of Wilsonville is seeking public input on two bridge designs under consideration for the French Prairie Bridge, a project that would provide a safe route for cyclists and pedestrians to cross the Willamette River and allow emergency responders an alternative to the I-5 Boone Bridge.
In January, the Wilsonville City Council unanimously supported a recommendation of the French Prairie Bridge Task Force to further study two bridge types – suspension and cable-stayed. Both types are considered “signature bridge” forms not commonly constructed.
The Task Force recommendation cited low impact on waterways and the ability to serve as a memorable landmark as two reasons it supported the advancement of these bridge types.

Wilsonville Parks and Recreation hosts the annual Community Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 20, 10 am at Memorial Park. Young egg hunters (ages 1-11) are divided into age groups and sent onto the field to gather the 15,000 eggs scattered around the ball fields.
The Parks and Recreation crew — with a little help from the Easter bunny — is dishing out several prizes, including gift baskets, to lucky participants. Don’t miss this springtime tradition.
