Heritage Tree Program
The Heritage Tree Program includes trees / groves of trees that have historical significance to the Wilsonville community based on their location, age, that they were planted by or in honor of someone who advanced the interest of trees and plants in the community. The purpose of the Heritage Tree Program is to recognize, foster appreciation of, and inspire awareness of the contribution trees make to the community by celebrating the intrinsic value of trees for the community and the many benefits of preserving and protecting trees today and in the future. Purpose
The purpose of the Heritage Tree Program is to recognize, foster appreciation of, and inspire awareness of the contribution trees make to the community.
Goal
The goal of the Heritage Tree Program is to annually designate individual trees or groves of trees within the city limits that have some significance to the community, link to history, heritage or uniqueness. The Heritage Tree Program's aim is to educate community members about the importance of trees through recognition and information about trees, and their role in our cultural and community history. The Heritage Tree Program celebrates the intrinsic value of trees for the community and the many benefits of preserving and protecting trees today and in the future.
Other Distinguishing Aspects
Heritage trees can also be recognized due to their involvement or inclusion in the development of landscape architecture, forestry, city planning, and culture. They are recognized due to their:
- Age
- Design placement
- Link to important events or activities
- Location
- Persons associated with them
- Setting
- Size
- Species
- Unique features
Nominations
If you know of any trees that would be a good candidate for the designation of a Heritage Tree, please consider nominating the tree. Nominations may be submitted at any time throughout the year. Any nominations submitted after January 15th meeting the eligibility criteria and approved by the Art's Culture and Heritage Commission will be dedicated the following calendar year.
