Planning
Wilsonville is a community that has grown from 1,000 residents in 1969 to today’s vital city with over 25,000 residents and a regionally significant employment base. The city you experience today is the result of a combination of deliberate community planning, bold private sector investments, and community leaders who seized unique opportunities. Learn more about Wilsonville’s planning story.
Our division works as a team with other departments in this growing city by guiding the built and natural environments to maintain the quality of life for all residents and promote a robust economy. We work with the City Council, Planning Commission, the Development Review Board, the private and nonprofit sectors, and government partners to both ensure new development that helps the city achieve Wilsonville’s vision, and also to determine the vision for the next 20 years. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact us.
What We Do
The Planning Division staff balance projects that fall into five distinct categories:
- Current Planning - fulfilling the City's development review and permitting responsibilities, Development Code ensuring new development complies with the Development Code. Learn about development-related projects on the Projects Around the City page.
- Regulation Improvements - developing and implementing large and small code and policy changes to the Comprehensive Plan and Development Code.
- Long-range planning projects - planning for how the community will evolve, grow, and get better over time. Often these projects fulfill the city's responsibility to coordinate with state and regional planning policies. Learn more about planning projects on the Projects page.
- Community Development supports the area development, parks, and other departments to develop and implement projects of community and regional significance.
- Code Enforcement focuses on protecting community health, welfare, and quality of life, while also protecting individual property rights. Enforcement action is typically initiated by citizen complaints and is investigated by appropriate city staff.
