Council Enables New Industrial Development, Adopts Flag Policy
January 20, 2023 — At the January 19, 2023, meeting of the Wilsonville City Council, on second reading, the Council adopted two ordinances that annex and rezone 9.2 acres within the Coffee Creek Industrial Area. These actions enable development of a warehouse/manufacturing building and associated site improvements that are consistent with the Coffee Creek Master Plan
The Council took two actions, on second reading, to approve a new Flag Policy, which codifies a framework that defines how/when commemorative flags may be placed on City flag poles and in City facilities, among other regulations. The new code prohibits the display of banners on City streetlights and other poles except for City-sponsored events, and articulates how flags may be displayed.
The Council approved a $135,000 contract with Northwest Playgrounds for the purchase and installation of a new inclusive climber and other amenities at the Murase Plaza playground in upper Memorial Park. The project includes fully-accessible synthetic turf surfacing, and represents the first step toward making the playground completely inclusive.
During Mayor’s Business, the Council re-elected Councilor Kristin Akervall to the position of Council President.
Additionally, the Council confirmed a list of the City’s priorities for the 2023 State Legislative session, and also confirmed Mayor Julie Fitzgerald’s recommended assignments of Council members to the several City boards and regional intergovernmental bodies on which the City’s elected body is represented.
During Communications, Wilsonville Chamber of Commerce CEO Kevin O’Malley shared details of a new regional program being administered by the Chamber to provide financial relief to small businesses impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The Oregon Business Recovery Center is allocating small business grants of up to $10,000 to companies with no more than 50 full-time employees. Applications are being accepted on Jan. 31. The program is also providing training opportunities and consulting services to local businesses.
During Legal Business, City Attorney Amanda Guile-Hinman provided an update on the City’s State-mandated project to bring the City’s prohibited camping code into compliance with new Oregon laws to provide compassionate protections for people experiencing homelessness. The project is being informed by a public survey at LetsTalkWilsonville.com, which is available until Feb. 6.
The next regular meeting of the City Council is to be held on Monday, Feb. 6, at 7 pm; a pre-meeting work session is scheduled at 5 pm.
