Winter Walk+Roll to School Day
Calendar Date:
On Wednesday, February 5, 2025, Oregon SRTS celebrates Winter Walk+Roll to School Day.
Winter Walk+Roll to School Day encourages kids and parents to Walk+Roll to school even in winter and all year round! Put on your rain or snow boots as you walk, roll, carpool, ride the school bus, or SMART transit while enjoying wintertime in Oregon.
SMART encourages schools to participate on the scheduled day or any other day in February. SMART can provide resources to help your school plan events and order free incentives.
Contact your school or SMART for more information. We often need volunteers and parent champions!
Winter Walking 101
Winter has arrived, but that doesn’t mean an end to children walking to school. With the right preparation, walking to school in the winter can be fun and enjoyable! Follow these six helpful tips to encourage students to continue walking to school all winter long:
- Check the forecast and avoid days that are too cold, windy, or snowy.
- Dress in layers to help regulate your body’s temperature.
- Wear hats and mittens/gloves to keep your head and hands warm.
- Keep your toes warm by wearing warm socks and rain or snow boots.
- Take your time, and enjoy a leisurely pace to school.
- Stay hydrated by drinking water before and after your walk to school.
